Medicare ACO Beneficiary Board Orientation

All Medicare ACOs are required to have at least one Medicare beneficiary representative on the Board of Directors to ensure patients’ needs and preferences are factored into decision-making. This orientation video was designed to help beneficiaries become acclimated to the role. It includes an overview of ACOs and value-based care, information on how to be an engaged patient representative, tips from an experienced ACO beneficiary board representative, and resources to support beneficiaries in the role. Presenters include:
- Mark Gwynne, DO, UNC Health Alliance – a family physician and ACO executive
- Gwen Darien, Patient Advocate Foundation – a longtime patient advocate who leads patient advocacy, engagement, and education at PAF
- Marielle Cummings, Medicare Beneficiary and Consumer Advocate – an experienced ACO beneficiary board representative and retired health executive
